- an elected official or body of officials remaining in office in the interval between the election and inauguration of a successor
Thank you. Though it has become a catchall for a politician past his sell-by date, it renders the original definition meaningless, and the new one nebulous. The old ways are the best. Let’s not abuse the lexicon.
