Being Contrarian For The Sake Of Being Contrarian Will Not Cut It

If you’ve traveled the intertubes long enough, you are no doubt aware that “thinkpieces” abound. As it turns out, you can get paid for them. I have been blogging and following blogs for a long time now. Many, many bloggers have been co-opted into the majors for their keen wit, eye for detail, and mastery of facts. These days, independent, mini-blogging is sort of pointless. If you haven’t already made the grade or aren’t some genius in the rough, there’s a very good chance you will be short on readers. Every one is probably reading who they want to read and that’s about that. Yet, there go I.

I don’t begrudge any one their successes. Now I am sure that what I am about to describe is probably epidemic, but something that rankles is when you see someone who has it good going against conventional wisdom just for the sake of going against something. Or to put it more succinctly, you’re just making a point to be a dick about something and really not saying anything of substance. For the life of me I do not know how these people get paid to “think”.

Case in point: Jon Stewart was bad for liberals because blargh-argh cynical so he sets an example on how to be negative instead of instructive. As if we were unable to walk and chew gum, that we cannot cheer Stewart on and make sober assessments of reality at the same time.
