I’m late on this, but it’s still really bothering me.
President Trump is the commander-in-chief of the armed forces. And boy, let me tell you how happy I am that I had to leave the service before I let that motherfucker send me into harm’s way.
President George W. Bush lied countless times about our progress in Iraq. But what Donald Trump said about our troops just recently is inexcusable.
“We are doing really well in Iraq,” Trump said before a group of senators and their spouses at the White House. “Our soldiers are fighting, and fighting like never before, and the results are very good, so I just wanted to let everyone know.”
(Draws deep breath)
Firstly, you dumb cluck, the US troops in Iraq are in support roles. That means that the Iraqi army needs assistance in areas like drilling, tactics, strategy, battlefield medicine and logistics. We have had to build the Iraqi armed forces from the bottom all the way to the top because Paul Bremer and other assorted Bush dimwits fired the military shortly after the occupation. Any soldiering experience was scattered to the wind and the professionals, no longer with a paying job, melted into what we called “the insurgency”. Oh, remember those days when every Friedman unit would be the one when the Iraqis were “ready”? Well, they’re still not ready. That’s probably because no one there really wants to die for a hyperinflated soldier’s salary. Far easier to make a few bucks selling cigarettes and bootlegged movies from a hacked satellite signal. But my point is that Duh Fuhrer doesn’t really know what his troops are doing. That makes me nervous. I mean, it’s unlikely that he is calling any shots with his good brain but he is at least hewing to his idea that talking about troop deployment numbers is a new iteration of OPSEC. This makes about zero sense as it’s not too hard to find out if there is an escalation in troop numbers-the military prints several newspapers that will give you this information unsolicited.
(Looks like I had a really hard time getting this tirade right-25 revisions. It can stand on its own here, for those of us who like Memory Lane.)
