Our penal system is barbaric. Yes, I know-why coddle killers and rapists? We are participating in state sanctioned revenge, not justice. Our prisoners are not given the tools to survive in polite society once they leave; and we remove the lives of those who did the same. We can do better. We seem to be satisfied with a revolving door of imprisonment, instead of emptying our jails, as should be the goal.
