Hollywood liberals-I can take them or leave them. I think it’s a good thing that they bring attention to issues and use some of their immense wealth to better the lives of people around the world. But some of them are Not Helping:
John Cusack, the actor, writer and – increasingly – political pundit, has said Barack Obama is “as bad or worse” than George W Bush when it comes to issues such as the NSA, freedom of the press, civil liberties and drone strikes.
“Obama has extended and hardened the cement on a lot of Bush’s post-9/11 Terror Inc policies, so he’s very similar to Bush in every way that way,” he told the Daily Beast.
“He hasn’t started as many wars, but he’s extended the ones we had, and I don’t even think Dick Cheney or Richard Nixon would say the president has the right to unilaterally decide whom he can kill around the world.”
Great. Another manic-progressive shitting in the nest.
I don’t know what Terror Inc. is, but I do know that the President ended the torture program. I do know he is trying to empty Guantanamo Bay. That puts him head and shoulders above George Bush.
And the number of wars the President has started is a big fat goose egg, zero. He ended the war in Iraq and has cut troop levels in Afghanistan by 75%. Still think he’s worse than Bush, John?
Lastly, Barack Obama doesn’t personally sign off on every targeted killing we undertake. The CIA and JSOC have been empowered to do the wetwork by the administration, but each strike has proof of terror ties preceding it that go to select members of Congress. So It’s a bit more complicated than Cusack is letting on.
But by all means, don’t let facts interrupt a good rant. You’re not going to get what you want by publicly dressing down the President. You know what that does? It makes conservatives laugh, dummy.
