It’s always darkest before the dawn.
And things are getting grim. Conservatives have seized power everywhere, and are doing the kinds of things they’d only talk about to get people to vote for them. I never thought they were serious; that is my mistake. From fucking with voting protections to curtailing choice to finding ways to opt out of anti-discrimination legislation if your sky poppa said bad things about gays in your crusty old book, they are busy, busy bees lately.
But I feel good. I feel optimistic about the future. Pretty soon, the Supreme Court will affirm the right of anyone to marry who they love. All of these new statutes are utterly unconstitutional and will be annulled in good time. Now, I’m a straight white male. None of these laws have affected me in any way. I can’t pretend to know what it’s like to have your basic dignity questioned in a legal code. But I’m in the freedom camp, the real freedom and I happily stand with the forces behind true personal liberty and social justice. I tell you this now: this is all happening because they are scared. They know they only have a limited amount of time to orchestrate as much regressive mayhem as they can before they are ejected from office for being too extreme.
Dawn is coming, friends. It will come on hot and strong and strike these bastards right in the eyes with its new glow.
